Searching for People of Similar Music Tastes?

Right now I'm still doing the 'try and play everything just once' so those that track multiple plays to detect a favorite artist are in a bit of a goof up at the moment but I hope as time progresses the statistics will level out and I can see what my listen patterns are, if anything.

Interested in seeing if you have whacked out tastes in music or if you're just another run of the mill pop consumer? I found several different tools and I'd thought I would give you some impressions.

The first, and my favorite of the bunch is Music Mobs. Music mobs plugs into Winamp, or iTunes allowing you to upload your statistics to the page and then it creates a rather large database of what you listen too, the number of times, and compares it to other lists. Then you can search based on similarities or differences, create 'mobs' based on favorites, and other cool tricks. If nothing else it's rather an interesting statistical program.

The next one is Audioscrobbler. This program is rather cool, but I also have some issues with it. The biggest complaint I have is that it only runs active on your machine and doesn't take into account your listening to an external device like the iPod. They're worried that people will 'cheat' their statistics up, which is funny to me. You can create groups, such as the MacRumors group and see if people with similar interests in computers have similar interests in music. So far, not really ;)

The last one is this iTunes Internet Registry. This is a great tool for analyzing your own library, but doesn't really make a connection so to speak with people of similar music interests.

I'm registered as Trekkie (surprise) on each one if you'd like to search for me. The hard part is I mostly listen to the same mix CD in the car over and over, so my favorites are on that playlist. But when using the iPod or iTunes on the machine I tend to put it on full random and just hit weird song combos. Going from Billy Joel to Limp Bizkit today was interesting.
