XM Takes on the people they encouraged in the first place.

Since I ordered it the device has become hard to find and people are putting them on eBay and making a killing since XM took their ball and went home.

USA Today reports that XM Radio has threatened a customer who took a device that they sell and encouraged people to develop software for (including Macintosh software, which they do not provide)

Discovering this cool device by this article I quickly ordered one for $49 or so from a website that has now jacked the price up to $60. Since I ordered it the device has become hard to find and people are putting them on eBay and making a killing since XM took their ball and went home.

I just wanted one to listen to XM in the house because I've had it in my A4 since I got it back in October of 2003. There are times I'd like to listen to the radio in my house and this seemed like a great way to do it. The XM Mac software that is open sourced and even the code is available has really worked well since I got it hooked up this evening.

It even lists all 200 channels and what is playing and who the artist is on every channel simultaneously. It's a great deal for $49.95 and since I already have XM the second radio is $6.95 a month on their family plan.

It's too bad they took this tactic instead of embracing it. I'll keep playing with mine, I've got the grandiose idea that I can make a plug-in for iTunes or something. I guess we'll see.
