INDUCE act killed...for now.

The legal teams representing both sides agreed that with such a short deadline it would be impossible to hammer out a real agreement so they tabled it until next session.

Talks between Tech, Consumer and RIAA Break down over the INDUCE act.

Of course now one has to wonder if money from the RIAA is going to talk during an election year or if they will come to their senses and stop this ridiculous bill from moving forward in its current iteration.

Apple vs. Apple

While that may be true for them in the form of brand recognition, I've also seen an article over at ArsTechnica talking about how online music stores are only receiving $0.05 per song of the $0.99 charged for them.

Review of the Microsoft Music Service on Silconvalley.com

I've made no bones about my like of the iTunes Music Store over all the other or soon to be offerings out there, especially the poser Real (can't link you to them, the bastards don't support Mac and if you try to go it redirects you to buy their shitty software.)

Save Betamax! National Call in Day

Basically the INDUCE act would invalidate the Sony vs. Universal (aka the Betamax decision) that gives you the right to 'fair use' or make copies of the media in question for your own personal use.

INDUCE act catching some grief

News.com is reporting that the U.S. Copyright Office has weighed in on the issue with a new draft (PDF File) that it believes would go after the P2P networks and not the iPods and Computers that can potentially be used to 'induce' someone to steal.

Catching up on some news items.

Wonder when the folks doing stuff like this will figure out that the copyright holders have the money, and they don't, and they'll pay off the United States government (legally of course) to pass all sorts of laws that will have our CD players, iPods and everything else checking with 'big brother' if it's OK for us to listen to or play the music.

Orin Hatch still doesn't get it, but we're screwed anyway

If you don't want new laws force fed by (legitimatly) paranoid copyright holders forced through congress with wads (and big wads) of cash it's time to take a stand, support the legitimate ways to download music off the internet, or go buy some CDs.

Copy Protected CD makers pressure Apple

CNET (AKA The Apple Haters) has an article that the fine folks that brought us Macrovision and other copy protection methods are frustrated that their proprietary windows media format only method of 'copy protection' has pissed off enough of the millions of people that have bought the iPod (since the iPod doesn't play WMA files).
