Thoughts on the XM PCR and Mac XM
I got to thinking about it and when we take our
trip to the coast next weekend I might bring this along and put it up in the car
so we can listen to it on the road, draw back being I need to use the laptop to
control it but still nice way to get XM Radio in the Pacifica for the long haul
up and down the coast.
So I've had my XM PCR hooked up on my Powerbook with Mac XM now for a
few days. While eventually I plan on attaching this to my iMac G5 when it
gets here because this seriously restricts my portability considering the
multiple cables and antennae attached to the little XM
Brick.Right now I've got the cables
half assed draped over the desk with the little antennae thing pointing out the
nearest window. The Mac XM software has a little signal guide that shows both
the satellite strength and the terrestrial antennae strength. The Satellite
one is pretty solid in the middle for me in this configuration but the
terrestrial one seems to bounce all over the place so I wonder if there are any
terrestrial antennae here in North
Carolina.I got to thinking about it
and when we take our trip to the coast next weekend I might bring this along and
put it up in the car so we can listen to it on the road, draw back being I need
to use the laptop to control it but still nice way to get XM Radio in the
Pacifica for the long haul up and down the
coast. One of the fun features on Mac
XM is that it shows you what percentage time you are listening to particular
stations and I find myself listening to some to get others further down the
list. Recently I've been listening to channels to get them above the 'channel
1' you have to listen too while waiting for the signal to get to activate your
unit. So right now I'm listening to 'The System' to get it above the XM Preview
station, and have just gotten it above it :) It's rather addictive for us
obsessive compulsive types.
