More Tiger Features Leaking Out

Now if I could just convince my family members to either buy a iSight for their Mac or buy a Mac (yes Dad & Mandy, that would be you) we could get all the kids on a video conference and for some reason that just brings a smile to my face thinking about the fun that would develop.

Appleinsider has an article with some new pictures of a recent development build of Apple's next operating system 'Tiger'. One of the new developments that I found interesting is the inclusion of Jabber into iChat.

While for me this is a bit of a 'chicken and the egg' in that I'd have to convince the people I like to talk too over IM to move over to a jabber client - unless they're on a Mac. While my favorite PC IM Client Trillian has a plugin for jabber most of my family is using one specific client or another like Yahoo or AOL. To me getting off the 'closed' IM where they do things like break Trillian from time to time for 'security' reasons or charge a license fee to keep the open source riff raff out.

With Jabber you could also make your own internal IM system secure. While Lotus does have Sametime and I use that all day every day at work as far as I can tell Sametime needs an IBM eServer iSeries to run it (don't know much about it, correct me if I'm wrong, but googling that's what I find) and not everyone wants an iSeries. Don't know why, go out and get one I need my stock to go up.

Anyway the big feature of Tiger that really got me excited was really Quicktime 7.0 and the ability to do a four way video conference with iChat. Now if I could just convince my family members to either buy a iSight for their Mac or buy a Mac (yes Dad & Mandy, that would be you) we could get all the kids on a video conference and for some reason that just brings a smile to my face thinking about the fun that would develop.
