Belkin Media Reader for iPod Review
It only took two minutes to pull it off the iPod
once I put it back in the dock but the worst thing about the whole process is it
took over half the battery of the iPod just to copy those files!!!
Boy, this thing is
worthless.
I use a Canon D60 as my
camera. It is a 6MP digital SLR and the file sizes in 'RAW' mode average
about 6MB per image. So I use two IBM Microdrives as my storage devices for the
camera. For years I've used a firewire reader to copy things off, but on a few
occasions having a smaller, portable device to copy things off onto would be
great. I thought that this time when I updated the iPod it'd be cool to use the
device as a portable hard drive so I could carry it instead of my laptop
everywhere when we go out on vacations. Not that the laptop is heavy but going
from maybe 5 lb device to a .5 lb device would always be a
welcome.
So I had some pictures I
needed to pull off that I took from the 4th of July. Instead of using my handy
dandy lexar media I plugged in the belkin device into my iPod and stuck the
drive in. It found the card, and asked gave me the options to copy onto
it.
So I started it. At the time I
didn't think I'd need to time things, so I don't have an accurate time or
anything but I believe it took over 20 minutes to copy off 113 pictures from the
card. So much for firewire interface I guess. It only took two minutes to
pull it off the iPod once I put it back in the dock but the worst thing about
the whole process is it took over half the battery of the iPod just to copy
those files!!! That's terrible, and the belkin thing has four AAs in
it.
So I doubt I'll use this $100 hunk
of plastic. I might contact Apple and see if Ic an return it since I bought it
through the store considering how expensive it is and how worthless that
is.
