The thoughts that float through my head when I remember to jot them down. An insight into the madness that is me.

Ah, Mozilla's anti-pop up feature disables Blogger.com's abilitiy to pop up a login window for the ftp server. don't know if I want to hard code my password yet, so I'm under attack by popups again.

Well, spent the day trying to get a machine I sold on eBay ready. Went to re-install Linux and the thing hung at the Anaconda loading - please wait... option.
Spent a good part of the day going 'WTF??' because guess what, you got it, I'd installed RH 7.3 on there before no problems.
As near as I can tell, something didn't like the autodetect of the video/monitor. I had to manually kill a process in order for it to continue on, but after I did that, everything was hunky dory.
Go figure. Gotta love weird ass issues like that.

Flipped to Mozilla on the browser, but like my Linux desktop, Mozilla doesn't appear to like the entry window for the Blog. Wonder what does that.

Welp, the roadshow is over. I visited Houston, Austin, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, New Orleans, Denver, Kansas City and Dallas over the last month. I really enjoyed myself and enjoyed the giving the presentation/demo. Out of all the cities Dallas seemed to be the least excited about VMWare ESX Server which rather disappointed me. But I'll live.
It'll be weird staying home and seeing the wife and kid again. Kind of got used to being a jet setter there for a bit. Built up the ol' frequent flyer miles and had some fun.
I did take my Powerbook with me on the way to Dallas and watched a few movies on it. I must admit this screen is a lot brighter and wider than my work Thinkpad. I wish IBM would make a wide screen laptop similar to this. Very nice machine. Updated to OS 10.2 the other day, and haven't noticed a lot more differences. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
The one thing I did enjoy was the update to the printer drivers for my Canon S9000. Now I can print borderless with it so I can begin to print some images off. Need to get them photoshopped up on the wife's iMac and then send them over to the powerbook for printing. I've been trying to find a network print server with USB to hook the Canon too. I found one, but of course there is no mention of Mac OS support. There are days I'm wondering if I joined a sinking ship switching to Mac OS, but then I use it for a while again and enjoy the computing experience.
While watching the movie on the plane I did get a comment from the gentleman sitting next to me. He commented on how cool the powerbook was and how he wished he could have one but all the stuff he has 'only runs on a damn Dell'. I liked that for two reasons, A) he said something bad about Dell, I've never liked them and B) It proves to me that Apple's design is an amazing design, and people like them. If they could just get some cross-platform software working well, I think more people would go for Apple.
Baby girl is getting really big. Angi took the car in to get new tires (ouch, $900+) and she was sleeping so she left her with me. She is playing on the floor and singing away right now. She's started crawling a lot more. It's a funny kind of crawl that I've been calling 'army man crawl' where she drags herself along just with her arms. She will probably have killer arms here before long.
She does pull herself up on objects. It's rather cute. But she won't stand up by herself, she kinda freaks out if you do it. If you hold her up, and let go, she panics a bit looking around and then sits down. Then she is real clingy to you afterwords and won't let you do it again. I find it rather cute, but then I'm her father. I'm probably scarring her for life though when I do it.

Well, this is my first blog from my new computer. I now use a Powerbook G4 550Mhz with Mac OS 10.2 on it.
I must admit, after using Linux for the last six months, OS X is quite a refreshing change. I still have access to my Linux servers via ssh and other tools, but I have a beautiful GUI and a bit more support tools for various things. I purchased the student version of Macromedia's Studio MX so I now have Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks and Freehand. Now if I just had the time, I could build the web pages I always wanted.
I've not tried out the DVD ROM yet to watch a movie on this rather impressive 'wide screen' laptop. Comparing this screen to my work machine, the IBM Thinkpad T21 it is much brighter, and a little wider. I recal a wise crack a coworker said when I went from a 15" to a 17" monitor. I told him it was amazing what a few inches different could do, and he smarted off with 'That's what my wife said...'
There is a strong possibility that my house could go Apple on the Desktop, and Linux on the servers. Microsoft won't be fully removed unless someone comes out with a decent office suite. I was hoping the Mac OS X version of Starfoffice was a reality, but we'll have to see.
