New Music Listening

I wanted to point out some new music that I've discovered over the last few weeks thanks to the movie Garden State.

First, if you want to just start out with an interesting collection of music you can pick up the soundtrack either in physical form or via iTunes Music Store. A rather esoteric collection of songs that really made the movie for me vs. the story itself.

I'm really big into 'finding meaning' into songs I'm listening too, or identifying them with a point and time in my life. So that these all seemed to help do that while watching the movie (well, most of it, I had a 102 fever and dozed off during it and haven't re-watched it yet).

The first one that really grabbed me was The Shins' Caring Is Creepy off of their album Oh Inverted World. A co-worker had grabbed this CD and I listened to pieces of it there and decided it was a must have.

The other one that started to hook me in was Frou Frou's Let Go which is a very haunting sounding melody. It reminds me a lot of Poe somewhat.

I highly recommend you snag up Garden State's soundtrack, it's probably better than the movie itself. My AudioScrobbler will probably reflect this new found group of artists as I start to listen to them repeatedly while at home.
