Demonizing Christmas

The International Herald Tribune has an interesting editorial: Commercialize Christmas, or else.

They point out the absurdity of the 'religious right' and their push to 'de-secularize Christmas' at stores. There is an interesting bit of history of how Christmas was celebrated here in the United States.

The most interesting historical tidbit is that only 18 states recognized it as a holiday right before the Civil War. For those that don't know there were 37 states at the time by my count.

Of all the things for someone to worry about this time of year, how stores advertise for Christmas I think would be on of the last things on the list of a true religion. I would think they'd be shaming the people who mob stores at 5AM and get into a fight over a $500 laptop.

You'd think they'd do something to help the homeless, the out of work, the destitute who would love to have a roof over thear heads and something to eat.

You'd think they'd fight for a living wage.

No, they're gonna take out an $11,000 ad demonizing stores for not saying 'Merry Christmas' in their ads.

At least some people got it right.
