Top Ten SysAdmin Truths

While it's been a while since I've been a SA, he's dead on right. I was often told I was one of the best people they ever worked with and I was the most knowledgable and helpful person they've ever worked with.

I'm probably not the most knowledgale about everything, but I'm pretty sharp. However I talked to them, not at them, and usually find that helped any issue.

The only one I have a bit of an issue with is #1. While sometimes the 'have you done this...' question gets blown off the other one of 'I didn't do anything' isn't more a lie, just less of a thought. People don't realize that sometimes even the tiniest thing can tank a computer.

When I was still heavily working as deskside the phenomenon that was new then was e-Mail (we're talking '94 - '98 time frame) and the idea that opening a note and launching an attachment could destroy your computer was still relatively new.

So opening that note from your sister <> my computer stopped working. But, in fact, it was.
