Hybrid Adventures

Angi has been driving a 2004 Pacifica since March 2004. That car is coming off lease on June 5th so we decided to get a new vehicle. Today we picked up a new 2007 Toyota Highlander.

Not normally a big deal, except this time I started another great experiments with regards to energy savings/carbon footprint reduction efforts. I bought a Hybrid version.

So the big deal is that the MPG for a seven passenger vehicle is 31 Highway, 27 City. Our Pacifica averaged 20/15 for the same size vehicle.

Update I didn't realize, but I got it wrong. It's 31 City, 27 highway. Which makes a lot more sense because while in town you have a much better chance of running on battery.

Actually the Highlander has one more spot in it than the Pacifica did, as the middle row is a 60/40 split seat instead of two captains chairs.

Compare this to the 4WD version of the gas engine on the same Highlander as 24 highway, 18 city. Almost a 10 MPG difference in City driving which is what Angi normally does the most of.

I'll be watching the mileage for a few tanks of gas and report back some details. It's a pretty big experiment considering how relatively new hybrid cars are. We did lease it to avoid any big concerns long term to be safe.
