Was thinking about moving to Wordpress as a blog software instead of Movable Type, however during the installation procedures I discovered I'm on MySql 3.x instead of 4.x so it won't install.

Really annoyed at the security issues I've had with MT and needing a directory to have 777. Going to see if there is a way to use PHP on MT as well like Wordpress and if it can be easily converted over.

For some reason I can't seem to upload a few of my longer posts talking about the iPhone and a few other things I've been working on. But if I upload a short one like this post it comes up fine. Got a note into my website hosting company to see if they see anything.

Apple's Website Re-Design.

It's been a while since it happened, but I marvel at it pretty much every day.

For those of you who don't visit Apple's Website on a regular basis, I suggest you check it out. It's a rather interesting implementation and I'm wondering how they accomplished it (AjAX, etc) technology wise.

Particularly the search. As you type something in it acts just like spotlight and highlights areas of the site for the word you're typing in.

The latest craze sweeping the world is now you get a spam from virtual hitman who threaten to kill you unless you pay now. They've been bilking many people out of tens of thousands of dollars or more in order to stop the hit if you 'pay now'.

Analysts & The Computer Industry

I used to think the Analysts were the coolest job to have. You got to talk to companies, learn what they were doing, and then form an opinion on where the industry was going.

Since I've gotten closer to the industry side that contacts these analysts I've grown quite disillusioned with what they get to do every day. A former manager of mine worked for IDC for years, and often jokes about how they just made shit up on a regular basis.

Never before have I seen such an accurate account of how idiotic some of the analysts can be, and how clearly they're entire paycheck is paid for by someone who absolutely hates someone else.

It reminds me of a recent Daily Show. Don't they know we record these things?

Back in March of 2005 I mentioned that they say they last 5 years. Well the third and final one of them just burnt out. I lost the first one as early as August 27th, 2006 and now the final one has failed.

Apple picks a fight it can't win or comments on the most recent Macbreak Weekly 44 by Leo Laporte who assumes Apple is releasing Safari for Windows so that they can lock in people to proprietary browsers.

What is it with these people? Why are they that stupid?

Unintended Consequences

So you've watched TV, you've heard about this new trick that can make your car run on vegetable oil so you decided you want to stick it to the OPEC cartel and start making your own fuel at your home.

Somehow, the state gets wind of it, and they dig up a fuel tax law and fine you $1000 and demand a $2500 bond + per gallon taxes on the fuel you generate, just like 'everyone else' that sells gasoline.

Another tank of gas in the Camry

I just had to put the second tank of gas into the ol' Camry today. $2.88 a gallon, wowwee a price break.

As previously mentioned the first tank was 33.9MPG with a bit of 'ooh what can it do'.

With a few weeks of regular driving, and at 492.2 miles in for a 14.082 gallons of gas I managed 35.0 MPG. The dash computer thing had said 36.

Hey It's Good to Be Back Home Again

After a whirlwind tour of parts of Europe I'm quite happy to report with other than a two hour weather delay in Atlanta on the trip back I'm home again and trying to recover from being jet-lagged.

While I do really enjoy getting to see London because it's so easy to get around with the underground (AKA The Tube) and what not, the sun coming up bright & shiny at 5:30 in the morning is not something I'd get used too. Sunset is around 10PM too.
